“Obeah is a coming of age fashion film. It highlights the shedding of the beliefs and labels put onto black men and women that we never claimed. Inspired by spirituality and witchcraft, the film displays the fluidity of gender and the self realization that brings happiness. The negative side of being comfortable with who you are opens you to the judgement that comes from external pressures and presences.”
An original score was created using processed acoustic sources, tape loops, and dusty samples to heighten the film’s hazy atmosphere.
